Hodges Family History

Jesse Lee Hodges was born around 1869.  He had two brothers Ollie and Ed Hodges and one sister, Gertrude Hodges.  He married Frances Elizabeth Miller and to that union ten children were born: Earl, Olan, Elmer, Nealey, Earnest, Laddie, Amzie, Jesse Lee Jr., Booker T, and Odessa.  The family were sharecroppers in Lee County, Mississippi.

Earl Hodges was the oldest of the ten children.  He was born on August 29, 1892 in Wheeler Arkansas.  He married Mariah Cox and to that union ten children were born: Henry, Fred, Earl Jr., Earnest, Henrietta, May Wilur (Mary), Mariah, Annie Pearl, Jesse, and Elmer.  The Earl Hodges family lived in Shannon, Mississippi.

Olan Hodges and his wife Maggie lived in St. Louis, Missouri.  The did not have any children.

Regarding Elmer and Earnest Hodges, some family members believe they were twins.  If so, they were both born around 1897.  Earnest and his wife lived in West Memphis, Arkansas., and they had two daughters.  Elmer did not marry and did not have any children, he lived in Ohio.

Nealey Hodges was born around 1900.  His wife was called Lovie and they did not have any children. Nealey Hodges and his wife lived in West Memphis, Arkansas.

Laddie Hodges was born around 1902.  He and his wife had three children: Laddie Jr., Annetter, and Herman.  The Laddie Hodges Family lived in Chicago, Illinois.

Rev. Amzie L. Hodges was born around 1904. He and his wife Delilah lived in St. Louis, Missouri and they had five children: Francis, Lula, Bernice, Andre, and Charles.

Jesse Lee Hodges Jr. was born June 20, 1905 in Okolona, Mississippi.  As a youth, he attended Okolona Industrial School and graduated from Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs.  In 1937, he married Geneva Kenerson and to that union two children were born: Jessee III, and Marian.  The Jesse Lee Hodges family lived in Chicago, Illinois.

Booker Taliaferro Hodges was born November 7, 1904 in Shannon, Mississippi.  He was the youngest of the boys born to Jesse and Frances Hodges.  He attended Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, Ms., where he met his wife Lucille Honeysucker.  They were married on Christmas Day, 1930 in Camden, Mississippi.  Their union produced eight children: Booker Jr., Melvin, Warren, Jessse, Mary Frances, Margaret (Maggie), Paul, and Isaac.  The Booker T. Hodges family lived in Memphis, Tennessee.

Odessa Hodges Dooley was the youngest of the children born to Jesse and Frances Hodges.  She was born around 1913.  She and her husband George Dooley lived in West Memphis, Arkansas and they had three children: Georgia Me, Jimmy, and Babe.
